About The Wizard
About the Course
The Wizard is another masterpiece from the genius of Dan Maples. With this course, Maples found inspiration in the links courses common to Scotland. In fact, the course is even marketed at times as your opportunity to be “transported to the Scottish Highlands.”
A low-country track that uses the natural terrain of the woodlands and wetlands to its advantage, The Wizard was awarded a 4-Star rating from Golf Digest Magazine and proves to be a fun yet challenging course for many.
The course is in convenient proximity to the Myrtle Beach International Airport and other area attractions such as the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk, Barefoot Landing, and more.
Course Background
Maples discovered a wonderful mix between Highlands characteristics and the kind of golf one expects to find in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. You can feel the links inspiration, and the result is a unique golfing experience that sets itself apart from the many other great courses in the area.
At its longest, The Wizard is 6,700 yards, and it can be short as 5,000. The Wizard is a course that favors precision and patience. There are numerous holes where there’s water or bunkers that simply aren’t visible from the tee, so you’ll need to use GPS or learn the course the hard way!

Course Layout
One and a half million cubic yards of earth were moved to form The Wizard’s intriguing landscape. The plantings on the berms and mounds include over 800 species of plants, flowers, and ornamental grasses.
While most layouts along the Grand Strand are built on relatively flat terrain, The Wizard Golf Course offers otherworldly elevation changes. In order to accomplish this, an astounding 800,000+ cubic yards of earth were moved to frame several holes on this mesmerizing design.
Although the Wizard Golf Course provides fairly spacious landing areas and moderate distance from most tees, the finishing three holes are as challenging as any in Myrtle Beach.
Water comes into force on the long, dogleg right, par-4 16th hole. The 17th hole is the trickiest par-3 on the course, featuring an island green with up to 180 carry over water from the championship tee. The course concludes with a second island green; a dogleg par 4 with water on each side of the fairway.
